Cleaning Up Waste, Recovering Resources, Renewing Libya.
Another NOC “Think Tomorrow” initiative to restore ecosystems, support community welfare, and meet Libya’s COP28 commitments.
Project Gaia is a groundbreaking collaborative effort focused on sustainable recovery and environmental restoration in the Libyan oil & gas sector. After decades of oil production, Libya has inherited significant environmental challenges, including waste oil lakes, some of which are so vast they are visible from space.
The National Oil Company (NOC) has now initiated a clean-up operation for these lakes, marking a critical step toward their environmental restoration. The project involves separating the wastewater from the waste oil and treating the oil to recover what is viable, and provide clean water for communities, industry and agriculture.
Pavilion Renewables, as the prime contractor, brings unique proprietary technologies to manage the separation and treatment process directly onsite. Pavilion’s innovative approach ensures efficient recovery, and their collaboration with local firms maximises job creation and economic growth for Libyan communities.
All Project Gaia’s key partners are working together to enhance operational efficiency, restore the environment, and foster local economic development.
